Trending: The Green Commercial Building

Posted July 28, 2016 | Tags: Green Building

Green commercial building is becoming one of the more popular forms of construction used by modern commercial architects mainly because of its view of the long term. Green Building is used to describe construction that is undertaken with a mind toward using resource-efficient and environmentally responsible processes throughout the life-cycle of the building. The aim of doing so is to strike a balance between construction and sustainable development. Green building is not an entirely new method of design but works alongside the classical concerns of building designs such as comfort, utility, economy and durability.

Green Building Innovations in 2016

Since green building has become such a major force in building design, many companies have started to focus on improving technology and engineering that caters to this style of design in the hopes that they will attract a commercial building architect to utilize their technology. Some of the more notable ones that have hit the scene this year include:

- BASF HP Wall Systems: Providing a much more stable structural form without staking up extra lumber for cross-bracing

- Retrax Solar Solutions: A compact and portable solar panel system that can be installed in as little as thirty minutes

- TECHNOply Synthetic Roof Underlayment: Designed to replace traditional asphaltic felt roof underlays with a variety of specially designed polymers.

Why are Businesses Focused on Green Construction?

Green building can be expensive, yet some businesses insist upon it. It seems to be a counter-productive thing for a business to focus on, but the simple answer is that green construction benefits the business in the long run. A company that designs around green construction looks at sustainability and environmental preservation. In the past, this often meant having to sacrifice certain architectural elements in order to conform to what was accepted as an environmentally friendly design. Luckily, as technology has advanced, it means that today businesses can have their cake and eat it too; designing a building that is both good-looking and environmentally friendly.

But is it WORTH it?

The question of whether or not green building design is worth the extra money involved in the construction is one that many owners puzzle about. The fact is that as time goes by, energy costs will begin to rise and having green construction in mind helps to offset these increasing construction costs. Whether a company sees green construction as a means to an end in order to offset prospective increasing energy prices comes back to whether the company sees protecting the environment as a major concern for them.

Green Construction is Important

In a world where environmental consideration is taking on a whole new meaning when it comes to the profitability and sustainability of a business, building green isn't just another decision. Its one that can affect the long-term sustainability of the building as well as the attached energy costs. Building green at the start and then turning around on the decision midway won't save money and will probably end up costing you more.
