Green Building Architects: No Longer A Mystery

Posted January 12, 2017 | Tags: Green building

Green building architects are innovators in the architectural industry. They are learning very quickly how important their roles are in the safety and preservation of the world we live on. They have a crucial role in helping plan, design, and build homes, residential buildings, and office buildings for customers who are ready to take a more sustainable approach to their companies or homes.

Green building, simply put, is an architectural practice in which these professionals research, plan, and create projects, homes, buildings, and offices that are greener or more eco-friendly than the average building.

Building a green home is worthwhile because it’s better for the environment and has a lot of long-term benefits both financially and environmentally.

The Role of The Architect

The role of an architect is simple and complicated at the same time. They need to help plan and make homes and offices into spaces that are required by workers and families. They also have a crucial role in educating those they are providing for. They have to work with a delicate balance of influencing decisions to be more eco-friendly without stepping over the customer's wishes. Architects play an imperative role in the building of a structure from the very beginning.

The Best Green Materials: Green Building Architects Suggest

There are many new types of materials out there that are sustainable alternatives to the traditional materials we are used to. There have been innovative changes made to common materials that significantly affect the way they interact with the structure they are built into and the environment around them.

Here are examples of good building materials:

HempCrete

HempCrete is one of the many new many new alternatives to concrete blocks. HempCrete is very similar to concrete in strength but are much lighter and created from the fibers of the hemp plant. They are mixed with lime and molded into hard blocks that are perfect for stacking. Hemp is a fast-growing plant which is just another way these blocks help the environment.

Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the newest alternatives to hardwood and has some amazing benefits. Bamboo is fast growing and can be harvested in the first three to five years of its growth as opposed to trees that can take around 20-25 years before they can be harvested for wood planks. Bamboo is the perfect material because it has impressive strength with such light weight. This makes it an easy replacement for other flooring and building materials and has the additional benefit of being much cheaper to transport.

Recycled Plastic

This material seems like an easy fix, but new technological methods are better able to use recycled plastics and make them into an almost concrete-like substance without the harmful emissions of the older methods. Grinding up recycled plastics and other trash reducing emissions into the environment through a cleaner process, eliminates thousands of pounds of plastic from reaching landfill by using them to build your new green home.

These materials might seem foreign to you, but with the help of your green building architect, you will be educated and making decisions in no time. These professionals are trained to help you make informed decisions, and that means they need to know the industry inside and out. They are there to help you start your new green life because it will benefit you, the architect, your community, and the planet we live on which makes their job some of the most difficult and most necessary.
